Antique Sterling Silver Clothes Brush

Very Good Condition, Hallmarked DOMINICK & HAFF (New York) American Sterling Silver Backed Clothes Brush. This rectangular brush with rounded sides is 5 3/8” by 3 1/4”, and 1 7/8” tall. Looks like early 1920’s. There is no ornate Victorian or Edwardian design, just pure, simple lines suggesting a stripped down Art Deco sensibility. Probably was a man’s/boy’s brush, since the simplicity suggests masculinity. The horse hair bristles, set in a wood base, are firm and straight, not sagging at all like many 100 year old or more garment brushes. One quarter inch of outer celluloid plastic covering over the wood base chipped away (this is pictured). The silver part of the brush has a multi tiered (5 tiers) of pleasing rounded descending circles. The age patina has been mostly cleaned, but some has been left since age patina is found to be attractive by many customers. A few dints on the upper corners and a few scratches on the backside. Comes with a 1970 period Tiffany dust bag. Collectible.
